On 27 April, design and technology teachers are invited to take part in the “Design in Education” workshop to get inspiration from design experts and to get hands-on experience with the teaching materials and methodology developed for the “Design and Technology II” secondary school course. The seminar is organised by Riga Business School as a unit of RTU.

In the seminar, Jānis Ķīnasts will dispel myths about design thinking, draw attention to the interconnectedness of design in time and space, and provide critical insights into design “praxis” – an integrated process of theory and practice in which the power of methods lies in their applicability and adaptability. Jānis holds a BA in Environmental Science and an MA in Art with a specialisation in Design. He has spent the last decade interning not only in Latvia, but also in Greece, Egypt, Tasmania, Azerbaijan and briefly in Hong Kong. Kārlis Jonāss, lecturer and design thinking coach at Riga Business School, will share his experiences from the world of startups. On a daily basis, Kārlis supports teams in formulating and solving problems. He has led more than 100 design sprints to help teams validate their business ideas.

In the second part of the workshop, under the guidance of teachers Evija Rozentāle and Ance Kancere, participants will get to know the training materials developed for the prototyping topic – examples of analysis prototypes and will draw up and discuss a testing plan. The workshop will be of particular interest to teachers who teach design and technology courses in secondary schools.
